Question / Issue
Why was I charged for the Student Health Benefit Plan?

Answer / Solution

The University requires all students registered for six or more credits (three or more during summer term) to carry health plan coverage. If you do not provide/verify valid health plan carrier information when you register, you will be charged for the Student Health Benefit Plan. For more information, contact the Student Health Benefits Office, N323 Boynton Health Service, 410 Church Street, East Bank campus, or call 612-624-0627.

International students are required to purchase the University-sponsored Student Health Benefit Plan and must be covered from the time they arrive at the University of Minnesota and have their documents validated by International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) to the date they leave the University.  The University of Minnesota mandates that all international students, scholars and their dependents be enrolled in the University-sponsored Student Health Benefit Plan (SHBP) unless they are eligible for a waiver.
